Having a cold is really boring. Sneeze. Sleep. Sort of watch TV. Shiver. Whine.
And sketch. I did a few over the last few days, part of a daily sketch habit I want to set up, using only ink. Click on one to enlarge the series.
I wish I could go back to bed, but I’m off to work ….
Last night I went to the local book store with a fellow sketcher. It was fun! Good conversation and drawing are a pleasant way to spend a few hours in the evening.
No, not really. But a fun night meeting up with a friend at a local coffee shop / bar / whatever, and some time spent chatting and sketching. I even drank tea and ate madeleines, so the artistic muse was happy.
It’s fun to watch another artist work, and it’s fun to see what catches the eye. We sat opposite each other and what was in my eye line was different from hers. It makes for altogether different projects. Another thing about just hanging out with another artist is that you learn about things you never considered or used before. Nothing like continuing to learn, eh?

I started a small Meetup group last September. At our third meeting we hit the local mall. I was pleased with the turnout! There were 5 of us total, two of whom showed up last minute. There are some pretty talented people out there! I finally got around to scanning some of my sketches, none of which are especially great, but it was really fun to meet a bunch of nice people who like to draw and paint and be creative. We’ll connect again in January, sometime after the new year.
Nothing like the power of the crop tool in your photo processing software. This is a pretty bad sketch, but it was part of a lot of sketches done at the local mall. On the original page it is all lost in space, but with a square crop, it turned out okay – just okay – but much more presentable.
This morning, I met up with a friend and we went up to one of my favorite local places, the botanical garden a few miles from my house. Before you knew it, 2.5 hours had passed, filled with sketching, painting, chit-chat, and coffee. Not a bad way to spend a sunny morning!
