Switchback

I always want to photograph this section of a trail in my neighborhood. I think this one finally captures it . . .

“Rest and Be Thankful” was the name of a book by Helen McInnes I read years ago. It came to me as the perfect title for this image – it was a lovely place to sit and be quiet, glad for being able to enjoy the beauty around me.

Tumbled

As with many seasonal creeks, the height of water comes and goes, depending on the rainfall. To prevent erosion, boulders have been dropped alongside the creek, which helps keep overflow contained as the stream wends its way to Paradise Falls a few miles away.

Again, the Nikon Df with the Vivitar Series 1 135mm f2.3 lens.

Alpine Flowers on Mammoth Mountain

So here we are, on top of Mammoth Mountain in the Eastern Sierras. Altitude is about 11,000 feet. And no, we did not climb that high – we are lowland dwellers at 800 feet, and not at all climatized to such height! – we took the gondola. Getting short of breath was a really great excuse to look around and take in the scenery, from beautiful flowers and colorful rocks, to marveling at the mountain ranges beyond mountain ranges beyond mountain ranges. You can see them on the horizon! Whew!
