Judy, I think we are innately designed to be frightened by snakes. Snakes are nice – but outdoors.
No idea what he is, but seems like a nice one, automaticwhispers! I always leave snakes alone. They are really nice things overall.

A snake not marked with diamond patterns is probably not dangerous, and he eats mice; in fact, this one has a bulge indicating he might have removed a rodent from your garden. Good for him! (I know they are beneficial, but they still give me the creeps.) — Katherine

Hahaha, Fraggy! At least not a rattler! 7 people in CA have died this spring because of bites, 3 locally. Careful on the trails and call emergency services if you find one in the neighborhood . . . . So,, yes, EEEEK in deed (at times).
