Matilija Poppies

Matilija (pronounced muh-till-i-hah) poppies are amazing flowers.  They bloom all at once, have flowers about 5″ in diameter, and can stand over 6 feet tall.  Impressive when you have vast swaths of them.  This year’s crop is magnificent!.

Ablaze

ablaze

A scene from the local botanical garden . . . piles of Pin Oak leaves against blooming Mexican sage.  If you look in the upper left, you will see some pink blooms still clinging to a tree branch.

Mount Clef

mount-clef

Taken along one of the trails in a local open space, Mount Clef in the distance.  You can see how dry it is in SoCal after 5 years of drought.  Rain is predicted next week, but I doubt it will show up.  Wah.

Lizard’s Mouth at Sunrise

Lizard Mouth at Sunset

Lizard’s Mouth is a promontory toward the eastern edge of the park, and as the sun rises in the west, it begins to glow.
