Matilija Poppies
Matilija (pronounced muh-till-i-hah) poppies are amazing flowers. Â They bloom all at once, have flowers about 5″ in diameter, and can stand over 6 feet tall. Â Impressive when you have vast swaths of them. Â This year’s crop is magnificent!.
Iris
I’ve been busy writing lately and haven’t had much time to look at the world around me. Â When I do look, I look at plants and the sky – the natural world. Â Suburbs don’t have much to offer in the sense of drama and awe – it is the little things that must suffice. Â And suffice they do, whether in the local botanical gardens or the vistas of the open spaces. Â This is another image from my trip a week or so ago to the local garden, using the Nikon Df an the Tamron 70-300mm. Â Early morning light and shadows made for some beautiful photos.
Freesias
I have a small batch of ever-expanding freesias in my front yard. Â Every spring, there they are. Â Using Velvia 100 slide film, these are the results. Â Today, the flowers are gone, but their leaves remain behind, returning the nutrients to the bulbs for next year.
