Today I finally sat down to scan some film I had processed awhile ago. Â This is Kodak UltraMax 400, a color film converted to b&w. Â I took this image last year sometime, long before the rains came. Â The moon was half full.

Ever since I can remember, a big pleasure in life is to look at clouds as they drift above. Â Here, in California, where I live, clouds are rare, and thus to be savored even more. Â They come with the rain – sometimes fluffy cumulus towering above the mountains – sometimes thin cirrus drifting at high altitudes.

Last month was hot, dry, and beautiful. Â We have had rains, we have had heat, and so the usual beiges of winter have given way to soft yellows and greens. Â At sunset, though, the geology of the landscape shows itself in the shadows. Â There is very little vegetation to hide the rocks and inclines and erosion of time.
