Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.
Sir Walter Scott, 1808

We keep hearing how AI can create some rather disturbing images, much like the removal of people from days of yore to create propaganda or beauty, such as in a fashion spread. Above is a sad day, below is a lucky lady who got a gift from the friendly, neighborhood pirate.

You can see the originals below, before doctoring.

What is truth? What is a lie?
Pretty soon we won’t have to use a camera to create our photos!
Haha – true! And then everything will be copyrighted, just like a scene that someone else has painted means you cannot paint it.
Another reminder that photographs on the internet provide only a fraction of the information that is available to your senses in real life.
AI is certainly a hot subject right now, it will be interesting to see where it goes!
I agree. Already here in the US I read that a helpline for a specific problem is using AI, not people. I wonder. Then, imagine if all this is recorded and ….
It’s really true, Laura Kate. Outdoors is the best experienced in person – but times past, or elsewhere? May not always be the best.
Of course.
I like the touch of the vultures you added with the elephants. Sinister!
I am learning not to believe much of anything I see or read unless I can confirm it with a trusted source, or perhaps two or three sources. On AI, in a couple of recent news stories, someone asked ChatGPT to write an essay about the oldest and youngest ever governors of his state. The program completely invented the “younger governor,” a person who appears never to have existed. And in a court, a couple of attorneys filed AI-generated briefs, which contained citations to nonexistent court rulings. The judge in the case was not amused. And teachers are looking closely at student papers for AI-written materials.
I know what you are saying about AI. O, brave new world – or O, no, this is not the world I want. The fact is, lies are part of our world these days, far more than ever before, and this is really sad. You are smart to question, Kathy!
