I bought a travel camera awhile ago – a Canon G7X Mark II – and am playing with it. I am trying out the different modes. This is one of the earlier photos after I just got it, and then I reduced the picture to black and white, not aware that there is a B&W mode in the camera. I want to get comfortable with the camera to get it to do what I want it to do when out and about in strange and exotic places.
I have some really good cameras – but I don’t want to have to change lenses or stay limited to one lens on a range finder. The G7X Mark II was the one I chose after looking at a bazillion digital point and shoots as I can actually set priorities (ie aperture, speed) or go totally automatic or totally manual.
And, it fits in my pocket.

I have thought about buying one of these to replace my venerable Canon S95. I will watch for more from your G7x!
Overall, I like it. Not sure about color – but that is a tweak probably. Vids on YouTube and critical arguments say the Mark II is the preferred version. The Mark III apparently has autofocus issues. The MKII has only the LED to rely on for viewing, but the MKIII has a pop-up viewfinder. Price difference between the two is only $50-$75 it seems.
More to come!
Canon digitals are known for somewhat muted color. I shoot my S95 on Vivid Color to overcome it.
Would not your fujiX100V do the job?
We will be traveling for 3 weeks overseas with only one bag to take on the airplane each, along with something personal like a backpack. The X100V has been very seriously considered. I would like to bring some camera, but know that for me a zoom is important. Hence, small, and the G7X. I really like the X100V but it doesn’t do zoom at all. I prefer the images from the X100V to those of the G7X. The G7X fits in my pocket, and is cheap enough that if it gets damaged or lost or stolen, I won’t be as upset. I need to travel light and with a minimum of stuff. I always over pack for fear of boredom and doing everything I can to make sure I have toys . . .
That is definitely one of the things I am considering setting up. I am working my way through the menus and color set-ups.
Where are you off to?
Iceland, Liverpool, Dublin, La Corunna, Lisbon, Porto, Madrid, Malaga, and Barcelona, and then a week or so with friends in Almunecar and then home. September to October.
Blimey that’s a lot in 3 weeks! Enjoy it all!
I am looking forward to it – but we will be cruising on a ship for the all those places, so we won’t be dealing with cars and hotels, and the last week will be at our friend’s house in Almunecar.
Nice!
Other than Canada and Mexico, this will be our first trip to Europe in our lives. I admit -nervous, excited. Really happy to see our friends, too. I’ve known them for well over 40 years (yeah, I’m old!), and I do miss them.
