2020 Watercolor Review

I have been trying to paint daily – not happening! – in one of three media: watercolor, gouache, and pastels. Today I am just going to present a slide show of what I have done in watercolor this year. Like anything that is being measured, it goes up and down as far as “success”, and that is subjective. What I think is good may not be in another’s opinion, and vice versa. The thing is to keep doing it, sometimes spontaneously and other times with a bit, or a lot, of forethought.

  1. Lots of good stuff here. I read recently that painting in watercolor does not rely on a particular process or method. This advantage encourages individuality and innovation.

  2. Laura Kate – watercolor is a difficult medium! It’s like writing haiku – easy to do a lot of bad stuff! Some is good here, some bad, but each is a learning experience, and doing it is the point more than anything – at least for me!

  3. All are beautiful. My favorite is Jauchelt 5-18-20. To me the tree looks like a ballerina bending over backwards. I love its grace and simplicity.

  4. Dont get down – hearted a lovely selection of work. I also like the meditative act of painting especially outdoors – just that can make it worthwhile.

  5. Thanks, Graham. We are always our own worst critics. And the fact is, just NOT painting is far worse than a bad painting!!
