Tree, Alabama Hills

The Alabama Hills in California are stunning.  Seasons are harsh and beautiful.  Here, pen and ink to get away from perspective and buildings!  Why is it that nature is so much easier and relaxing to paint?!

  1. Easier possibly because we do not feel complex to be perfect. If a tree is a bit off in shape, who knows? But with buildings and portraits we have this underlying desire to “make it look like it.” So I agree, rocks and trees are often less pressure.

  2. Thanks, Terry. I like your idea of the “complex as not perfect” – well worded! And, personally, I prefer to paint and draw the world without people, just as I do in photography, but know that buildings and people eventually have to be included, challenging as they may be!
