Iron Gall Ink – A Quick Update

I spent most of the day dyeing with indigo on yarn . . . and some silk. A long day! But, on the list of things to do was to decant the iron gall ink I have been making over the past week.

Success! It is a really beautiful ink! It flows well off the flex dip pen nib as well as the quill I cut a few days ago. I’ll blog a bit more about it later, as at the end of a long day, I’m really tired, but really content with both the dyeing and the ink.

  1. The plot thickens. I was commenting on the Owl’s blog, and got a reply that my sister was off “playing with indigo for the day.” All is explained!

There is a significant difference using that quill pen. Very nice!

  2. Too funny about the connections and interconnections we have here . . . the indigo turned out really well – and at the end J and I decanted the ink. We both thought it looked a bit thin and watery, but it works beautifully as is. Hope you have been well!

  3. I plan to use it in the near future to see how it handles as a medium for mono painting . . . I think it will be fine. I plan to use an inexpensive acrylic brush as it is acidic and can destroy a good brush quite easily – nibs can eat it after a bit.
