A Boy, His Dog, and a Bath Robe

Here are a few pictures of the other half in his bath robe.  It was a 2-hour Simplicity pattern, which is lying around here somewhere in the post-New Year debris!

We began the morning cup of coffee, and a wicked grin.  Trouble is brewing – more than just the coffee in the coffee cup!  Photobombing is most likely going through his mind . . . .

Do you notice the overall greenish theme – robe and coffee cup?  Pretty clever of me to think ahead for the photo shoot I knew was coming.

The robe was a success!  I wasn’t really sure if it would be.  I felt the roll collar was a bit too stiff, didn’t know if the side pockets would be acceptable (side rather than patch), and the length of sleeves and robe were left undone at the time of the wrapping.  I loved the material, which is a fluffy flannel, rather loosely woven, and rather ravelicious when sewing.  Overcasting, felling, all sorts of endeavors to keep the threads from escaping the warp and woof.

And speaking of “woof” – here is the Master of the House with Smudge, a Mistress of the Canine Guard.  Please admire the modesty of the pose, the fine fire guard, Italian marble and mahogany fire place, and decorative tree, along with my fine photography skills.

Happy New Year, Everyone!!

  1. Nice job on bag (previous post) and robe!

We have recovered from a four-day trip to Florida to see our daughter and granddaughter (who is of course beautiful and a budding genius), and have seen our younger daughter head back to DC. Hard to imagine a flannel robe is needed in your area! It was so warm here today (70º), that I’ve had to turn on the air conditioning in the hope that we might be able to sleep tonight. This is NOT normal for NC on New Year’s Day! But I won’t complain, because perhaps soon we will have ice and snow again.

Happy New Year to you, man, and dog(s)!

  2. Thanks, Katherine! We are suffering 45 F nights and 60 F days, with winds from the Arctic or somewhere equally cold.

I am glad you got to see your kids and grandkid, all of whom are just the best (of course!). It’s nice to be out of the 100+ we had during the summer . . .

Anyway, I was pleased with robe and bag, and everyone seemed to like their presents. This Sunday (1/6) is the first of the last 3 classes to finish the quilt top, so stay tuned. There is going to be a lot of sewing this year – but also photography and drawing / painting (check out the “my other lives” at the top of the blog for links to those) as I keep myself busy.

Happy New Year to you and Steve!

  3. Happy New Year N~
I once sewed bathrobes for my three boys for a PTA fashion show. That was a very long time ago. Now my machine is used for mending, etc.

  4. And a Happy New Year to you, too, Anne! That fashion show must have been a lot of fun. My husband’s brother, Mark, said, “I want to commission you for a robe!” I have the material – same as the green plaid, but with purple instead of green. It’s waiting to be cut out. I am knitting up another Dead Fish Hat, which should be done (and posted here) pretty soon. As far as mending . . . don’t seem to have much of that, other than an occasional button. Thanks for coming by!
