Misty Mountain

Misty Mountain Pano 2

This is a rather complicated story. I did two 5-exposure sets of this mountain, one landscape and one portrait. The top of the mountain was cut off in the landscape version. I merged each 5 exposure set with the same preset in Photomatix, returned them to LR5, and then used the panorama engine in CS6. This is the result, which I rather like. It catches the beauty of an autumn day in the Southern California mountains. I’ll remove the spot in the upper corner later, and perhaps modify the colors a bit as well.

In the process of learning software in greater depth, I am coming across approaches to photography I have never before encountered. Here, I present you with an attempt at the Orton Effect, which provides a softening of an image, sometimes a dreamy quality with a painterly appearance.

This approach was done with multiple layers in CS6. The upper left hand corner looks muddy to me – not quite sure what to do about that to correct the color, so it could be cropped out. I could adjust the colors in the image, but I just decided to go with its pale quality.
